Help Articles: Log Viewer Error – “libpng warning: ICC: profile ‘ICC Profile’: ‘CMYK’: invalid ICC profile color space”

Back to All Topics

What is an ICC (international color consortium)profile?

It’s how your device reads colors. No matter how carefully devices such as display screens and printers are manufactured, there are inevitable small variations, even from the same manufacturer’s production line.  Added to this is the problem of mixing devices from different manufacturers or production lines.  So each device might interpret the numbers in an image file differently and if we don’t take control, each device is likely to produce different color and tone from that intended.

This warning message at the project start indicates that a picture used inside of the project does not conform to the rules of the latest libpng library.

"WCCOAui      (1), <DATE and TIME>, SYS,  WARNING,    54, Unexpected state, Qt, libpng warning: iCCP: profile 'ICC Profile': 'CMYK': invalid ICC profile color space"

There are tools on the web that will course-correct this issue. The WinCC OA online help files recommend pngcrush. You can download the software from source forge here;

https://pmt.sourceforge.io/pngcrush/

You can run the utility via a cmd prompt.
